About the Coffee
The coffees roasted at our roastery are either country of origin coffees or blends of various beans. All the coffee we roast is of the Arabica species. There are several species of coffee, the finest quality being Arabica, which today represents 59% of the world’s coffee production.
Arabica originated in the highlands of Ethiopia. It is sensitive to hot and humid conditions, and grows at altitudes of 1.25-1.55 miles. Arabica grown at higher altitudes is associated with the emergence of higher quality characteristics during roasting. The beans are roasted from a light roast to a medium dark roast resulting in the retention of the beans unique flavours without imparting undue bitterness which results from too dark a roast.
We have three different roasts: The lighter Breakfast Brew, the medium Karoo Blend and the darker Insomnia. In our restaurant we serve the Karoo Blend but we’re sell all three coffees as beans or ground in our shop.
