Nieu Bethesda is a charming village nestled in the Sneeuberg Mountains and overlooked by Compassberg, the highest freestanding mountain in the Cape province. Characteristically the night skies are clear showcasing the stars for which the Karoo is famous. The village is fed by an eternal spring that feed the many pear trees and quince hedges unique to the village. Due to its seclusion it remained relatively untouched until it was rediscovered by artists and writers in the 1990’s. Much of its historical integrity has thus remained intact adding to its charm and tranquility making it a must for people travelling around South Africa. The nearest small town is Graaff Reinet approximately 50 kilometres away.
